***Please note that You Healthier Now isn't a proponent of any particular eating theory (Paleo, Vegetarian, Raw, etc....) other than to promote eating REAL FOOD as much as possible. You should always consult your doctor before trying any new nutrition plan. ***
That being said, I thought we'd take a moment to consider an eating theory that is quite popular right now. There are quite a few High Fat/ Low Carb nutrition plans out there. The Bulletproof Diet, Paleo Diet and Atkins Diet are a few of them that fall into this category.
The concept is to consume a diet with higher fat and protein intakes to ensure adequate caloric intake and limit your carbohydrates. You'll hear proponents of this style of eating talk about their favorite BPC (bullet proof coffee) that contains coconut oil and butter in it, bacon laden recipes, and meat as the main attraction on their dinner plate. For some that were raised on the USDA food pyramid, this concept seems completely foreign.. counter=intuitive in fact!
Notice the the focus on protein as the foundation of the pyramid. Followed by LOTS of veggies. Grains are used sparingly here.

You'll notice the focus in Paleo eating is equally spread amongst meat, fat, non-starchy veggies and berries.
Grains, legumes and sugars are to be avoided.

This portion of an infographic from the Bulletproof Diet infographic demonstrates it's focus on veggies as the main part of the meal... followed by meat... then quality fat. Notice that fruit or starch is 5% or less of the total.

Now compare the three high fat/ low carb options with the traditional USDA food pyramid. It's almost the complete opposite!

Obviously if you are vegan or vegetarian... this way of eating is not for you due to the high consumption of meat and animal byproducts. :) But for those of you that aren't... it might be an option worth considering. Many resources on the subject report that those that adopt this way of
eating are less hungry, experience more weight loss, increased levels of
the "good" cholesterol (HDL), reduced blood sugar levels (particularly good for those with diabetes), and lower blood pressure.
What are your thoughts?
Have you ever tried this way of eating? How did you feel?
